Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)
“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” Gandhi
Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is an increasingly well-known form of Energy Psychology. It was developed by Gary Craig in the 1990s after developing the work of Dr. Roger Callahan. EFT combines modern psychology and kinesiology, with principals of Traditional Chinese Medicine dating back 5,000 years.
Albert Einstein asserted in the 1920s that everything, including our bodies, is composed of energy. EFT is based on the premise that imbalances in the body's energy system have profound effects on our psychology, affecting emotional and physical ailments.
EFT is a form of psychological acupressure. Instead of using needles, a simple tapping technique with the fingers stimulates specific meridian points, that are situated just beneath the surface of the skin, see Shiatsu. You will be simultaneously guided into asserting various setup statements, reminder phrases, and positive affirmations for your specific concern or condition. You remain fully clothed, sitting on a comfortable chair throughout.
The treatment is non-invasive and works on the ethos of making significant changes as simple, as pain free and as long lasting as possible. Because the techniques are so simple, they can be used effectively as a self-help tool at home, which empowers you to actively contribute to your own healing and development process.
“As we get better at understanding how little we know about the body, we begin to realise that the next big
frontier in medicine is energy medicine. It’s not the mechanistic part of the joints moving.
It’s not the chemistry of our body. It’s understanding for the first time how energy influences how we feel.”
Dr. Mehmet Oz
EFT encourages increased mind-body communication and mindfulness, with wide ranging beneficial effects, see Meditation.
EFT restores awareness and trust in the natural healing abilities of our mind and body, providing new opportunities to achieve physical and emotional well-being in a faster time frame.
“EFT offers great healing benefits...Quantum physics has found that there is no empty space in the human cell, but it is a teeming, electric-magnetic field of possibility or potential. If we are creating ourselves all the time, then it is never too late to begin creating the bodies we want instead of the ones we mistakenly assume we are stuck with.”
How does EFT work?
Working on EFT's discovery statement that, "Our negative emotions are caused by a disruption in the body's energy system," EFT works to clear such disruptions and eliminate the resulting emotional response or intensity to restore emotional harmony and offer relief from physical discomfort. This is done by focusing on the specific problem whilst tapping the end points of specific energy meridians. The combination of sending kinetic energy to our energy system, whilst uncovering and focusing on root causes of the dis-ease, can remove blockages and facilitate a freer flow of energy. This can make significant changes to the body's habitual negative patterns, such as specific thoughts and emotions. leading to uncomfortable or debilitating physical symptoms.

"EFT is a powerful tool that works by rebalancing the body’s energy system and its practice can be both extremely rejuvenating and extraordinarily profound. I believe strongly that it is the ultimate combination of Eastern and Western approaches to psycho-emotional and physical healing and that its potential to transform the
lives of those who experience it is vast and far-reaching. It can be applied to a broad spectrum of issues, from
day-to-day ‘mundane’ worries and stresses, to distressing and traumatic events such as the loss of a loved one or a relationship breakdown, to long term psychological conditions such as depression, anxiety and past trauma."
