Holistic Treatments and Classes Since 1996
Reiki (pronounced 'ray-key') is a Japanese healing therapy, founded by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century; 'Rei' meaning guidance' and 'Ki' referring to the universal energy described in more detail in FAQ-Shiatsu. Usui recommended the practice of certain simple ethical principals to live and act in ways that promote peace and harmony with others. Based on detailed research and therapeutic experience he developed Reiki as a healing treatment to promote well being on all levels.
Benefits of Reiki
Reiki can help you feel more peaceful, centred and better able to cope with the challenges of life. Reiki is often highly beneficial during periods of short-term stress or crises and also offers support with long-standing conditions, offering comfort, security, understanding and a more balanced and positive outlook.
"As running water smoothes the jagged edges of a rock until it is small enough to roll away,
Reiki flows to the areas of need, soothing and supporting the body's natural ability to heal itself"
What does a Reiki treatment involve?
Reiki is open to any belief system and simply aims to support the body's own natural healing process and restore physical, mental and emotional well-being. As with Shiatsu, you remain fully clothed and lie on a comfortable futon mat or massage couch. The practitioner gently places their hands in a series of non-intrusive positions on or near the body. Traditionally, there is no massage or manipulation. If requested, this can be incorporated in a treatment utilising both Shiatsu and Reiki techniques.
What does a treatment feel like?
Each person experiences Reiki differently depending on your individual needs and wishes at the time. You may or may not feel sensations during a Reiki treatment. Experiences reported include deep relaxation promoting a calm and grounded sense of well being. Some people feel sensations of warmth and tingling, while others describe thoughts and feelings that suggest changes are taking place, allowing harmony to be restored.
